president joe biden hit it a bit closer to the mark when he joked about romney's favorite time of year out in colorado. >> folks, i want to remind you, this is the end of daylight savings time tonight. it's mitt romney's favorite time of the year because he gets to turn the clock back. >> yes, for mitt romney it's the closing hours of his six- or seven- or eight-year bid for the white house. it is a palpable feeling on the romney campaign plane that is end the near. indied, that was evident today in colorado springs with mr. and mrs. romney showing evident wear and tear, even getting a bit misty-eyed from the long flight. >> it has been quite a journey. it's coming to a close. we have three more days. >> it's no wonder emotions are running so high, particularly with new hoel o. polls out today showing romney down six in critical ohio. down two in his absolute must win florida. six, seven, eight years of campaigning and it's come down to this. romney still combing through the president's speeches trying to find anything that he might tether his message to, this time a line best served cold.

this... that's what this agency does. >> woodruff: meanwhile, vice inresident joe biden spent the day in iowa, where he attacked ryan's budget plan. >> look, ryan saying that his budget doesn't cut-- it just slows-- is a little like romney standing in an unemployment line and saying to the unemployed guy, look, i want to make it clear to you: i didn't outsource your job; i just offshored your job. >> woodruff: in fact, today the candidates, their running mates, spouses and surrogates blanketed seven toss-up states around the country. former president bill clinton has hit the trail hard, appearing today in wisconsin and ohio on behalf of the president. >> but i am far more enthusiastic four years ago. >> woodruff: clinton was in minesota earlier in the week, where the romney campaign recently announced a new ad buy. it's a place both sides had earlier assumed would belong to the democrats. the obama camp countered with a new ad featuring the endorsement of former secretary of state colin powell, ran it there and in nine other states. >> i think we ought to keep on the track that we're

to get an e-mail from barack obama, michelle, joe biden has been texting me lately. there's no escape. another interesting thing, margaret, is i got an unsolicited anti-obama text message from an anonymous source and lots of people in the washington area got there. mine said "seniors can't afford tour four more years of obama budget cuts to medicare." that's arguable, they're not really cuts, but point is you don't know where it's coming from. a virginiaompa is behndt. its conservative clients are distancing themselvess from having anything to do with these anonymous text messages. >> warner: are the campaigns themselves using these methods to get out negative messages at this stage or are they all positive? >> they are not all positive by any means. the campaigns have web site which is n which president obama's people attack mitt romney and vice versa. so it's a mix of trying to identify your supporters and get them to register, get them to tell their friends, get them to tell people on facebook and also driving negative msages, sometimings snarky twitter-type messages against the ot

. gerri: and the left out swinging today claiming the ad is inaccurate, including joe biden who called it flagrantly dishonest. my next guest says romney has it right. here to explain, associate fellow for the national legal and policy center. great to have you back. always a pleasure to have you on the show. this all came out of a report in bloomberg. let me read you what the road and read your response. european sales, the ceos, sergio marchini, considering building chrysler models in italy, including jeeps, for export to north america. now, is that true or is that false? >> that is absolutely true, and prior to that there was a bloomberg report that did say that the yacht was going to be building jeeps in china, possibly old jeeps, so that is where the governor romney got that information. now, there was one slight inaccuracies under the romney and where he said the obama administration sold chrysler to the italians. he didn't. he gave it to them. the only thing they paid up front was some technology they transferred. did not even pay any money for it. gerri: you're saying possibly

manufacturing sector. but today you might have heard that joe biden, again, was at it again. today he was talking about the government bailout which he keeps touting is an unsuccessful story. ask the chrysler engine people if they think that this was a success story. the facts, they speak for themselves. >> i mean, what is he talking about, dana? he voted for it and it was a success. >> well, i'm a little confused because now he's going to have an argument with his boss, mitt romney, who has said that in fact the whole thing was a success because president obama followed his advice, which wasn't true in the first place. but, still, they've got to get their falsehoods all lined up here if people are going to start asking questions. i think what happened here in ohio is they were looking at this and said, look, we're down five points and a whole bunch of these polls. we are losing the state. let's roll the dice. i think they realized there could be this kind of backlash that they are getting not just from the media but from the corporations themselves. the question is, how many of the p

will always ensure that disaster funding is there for those in need, period." period? vice president joe biden was campaigning also in the sunshine state today. president obama returns to the campaign trail tomorrow. he plans to barnstorm seven battleground states over the next several days. but today, we did not see politics in action. what we saw was government in action. people with authority to make decisions. chris christie is not the first person, i think, that you would think of when you come to the, you know, arena of bipartisan cooperation. he is a mitt romney supporter and a fierce opponent of many democratic issues. for whatever reason, we saw a different chris christie with president obama today. this is what cooperation looks like. when the american people need government to work, these two elected officials became leaders, and are in lockstep with each other. about time, isn't it? things are getting done. so many politicians run for office saying that they are going to reach across the aisle when they get to washington, and they're going to get things done when they get elected.

the campaign is afoot for the weekend. for the week the task of campaigning has been left to paul ryan and joe biden. >> and president clinton. >> right. >> but to surrogates, the notion the two guys running for the highest office in the land are not actively campaigning in the homestretch. jeb bush, i don't know if he was called by the romney campaign and asked to say something harsh about the president, but he certainly did not mince words yesterday in coral gables. let's take a listen to what he had to say. >> do you honestly think that this president is capable of bringing people together? his entire strategy is to blame others, starting with my brother, of course. basically, he blames every possible thing rather than having the humility to be able to reach out and to find common ground i thought that was, a, surprising from jeb bush, someone who is a republican, former republican governor, and certainly a surrogate for the romney campaign, but harsh words, especially given what the president was doing yesterday. >> yeah, i think that's true. and governor bush has not been the most hot eye

parenthood. he should talk to big bird. he is gone. >> that was vice president joe biden earlier today taking aim at governor romney's vow to eliminate funding for planned parenthood. this year single ladies could play the deciding role, with 55 million of them eligible to vote. according to a recent pugh poll, president obama is whomping, i believe that's a technical term, mitt romney by 25 points among that group. in many respects, the election has become a choice between the past versus the future, a choice between a bygone era and a brave new world. joy reed explores this dynamic, writing it takes for granted that billy might have two moms or two dads, or that the ceo might be a she. it could care less if guys serve in the military. it can't imagine abortion or conservatives being illegal. i thinks madmen is a good tv show, but so is the walking dead. cecil richards is the president of planned parenthood. and today she is joining us behalf of the obama campaign. part of my favorite thing is how much i get to see you. thanks for joining the program, as always. >> thanks for having me back.
